Important Details
*All dogs over 8 months must be neutered. Females that are not spayed must not be getting ready to go into heat or just coming out of heat.
*Dogs must be in good health and free from parasites
*Reservations are required for your dog's first day of playcare, and after that whenever possible. Space in playcare is not guaranteed without a reservation made in advance. Space is limited!
*Dogs must be current on vaccinations per your Veterinarian's protocols based on your dog or puppy's age. We do accept titres.
*All vaccination records must be on file at The Dog Spot. You may bring them in, mail them to us, or have your Vet fax them to us at 678-475-7600.
*A completed application and completed agreement must also be on file at The Dog Spot. You may download these forms from our site at your convenience and bring them with you to your dog's scheduled meet-n-greet session.
*Dogs must be evaluated for behavior standards prior to participating in daycare or sleepovers. Meet-N-Greet's are done by appointment only and last a minimum of 4 hours. You may leave your dog for longer if you wish. (Note: We close each weekday between noon - 3 pm so the dogs can rest and take naps. The doors are locked and there are no pick-ups or drop-offs during these hours.) Meet-N-Greet's can be scheduled Mon. - Fri., 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. or at 3 p.m. All Meet-N-Greet dogs must be picked up by 7:00 p.m. (Late pick-ups may incur a nominal $25.00 fee.)
*Please note that not all dogs are temperamentally suited for playcare and an interactive setting. While doggy playcare is a wonderful way for your dog to continue their socialization and get some great exercise, it is not always possible to admit dogs who need a lot of individual attention or special monitoring by the daycare staff. Dogs who are aggressive towards other dogs will not be permitted at The Dog Spot. Other behavioral issues will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by The Dog Spot's owner, who is a Certified Canine Behavior Counselor and Expert Dog Trainer.
*Chokers, Prong, and Electric collars are NOT permitted at The Dog Spot. All dogs must come in with a flat buckle, Martingale, or quick snap collar with their rabies tag and an identification tag.
*Gentle leaders and No-Pull Harnesses are permitted and encouraged for on-leash use. We do not allow these to stay on while your dog is at The Dog Spot, except in certain circumstances. No-pull Harnesses are highly recommended by The Dog Spot, so please don't hesitate to ask about them and their many benefits over traditional choker and prong collars. The Dog Spot will trade you a No-Pull Harness for your prong collar. Talk to Joyce about this program.
*Positive Reinforcement methods are used at The Dog Spot. This means that dogs will not be physically corrected for misbehavior.
*Time-out's are a method frequently used to help teach dogs proper manners (although they tend to not be as effective for barking as other methods). Time-out's may involve placing the dog in a crate for up to 5 minutes, or sometimes tethering the dog to a Dog Spot staff member. This is done to teach the dog that poor behavior choices lead to a temporary loss of play privileges.
Barking
This topic deserves it's own heading because it is such a common problem not only in this environment but at home as well. Bottom line - DOGS BARK! We know this and we don't worry about occasional barks while playing or even initial barking when first put in a crate or time out area. The reason we must limit excessive barking is because barking leads to increased arousal and stress levels, which can then too easily lead to altercations (barking may also cause the staff to lose their minds and hearing). Like we pointed out above, The Dog Spot emphasizes the use of positive reinforcement methods only. Therefore, we do NOT use squirt bottles or any other aversive method to quiet your dog. Instead, we will recommend a training program for you to teach your dog "quiet" so that they can be a better client at The Dog Spot. There may be occasions where we have to deny attendance to any dog that is an excessive barker.
*Parents will always be notified of any ongoing behavior concerns and we're always happy to discuss any of our methods as well as what training you can do at home to help. Please feel free to ask us any questions or voice your concerns at any time.
